Just a short note for record purposes. A personal 'historic' career record.
The big loss in terms of books, materials for on-going projects, work-in-progress, manuscripts, artwork and all were wisely and precisely managed. Every single detail were professionally attended to under the able leadership of the then Managing Director, M. Sockalingam (MS) and Publishing Director, Drs. Ahmad Fadzil Yassin (AFY). In short difficulties were dealt with earnestly.Initial hardships were thrown into thin air! Everyone rose to the occasion!

An Incident Best Forgotten
Just a short note for record purposes. A personal 'historic' career record.
The fire of 1991 (I cannot remember the exact date) started from OUP/PFB's Production Department. That department was on the first floor of a rented premise in Section 13 Petaling Jaya belonging to Hock Cheong Transport Company. The fire then gutted other departments around it namely Design, Typesetters Pool, and Camera Room. A total loss.

It later spread on to the neighbouring Editorial Department (yours sincerely work station) destroying everything in its path. Fortunately no lives were lost nor any injury suffered as the fire occurred after office hours. The authorities (Fire Department) established that a short circuit has been detected to be the cause of the fire.
The incident will not be something really worth remembering (looking at it from the 'calamity' angle). But, it will definitely be worthwhile to take into account the 'steadfast' nature and the 'rallying' attitude of all the staff affected. No question about it. They were just magnificent no matter how badly 'hit'.

Ironically enough . . . that fateful year we enjoyed a much more luxurious annual bonus than what usually was. It sort of became a popular joke amongst the staff then that . . . perhaps we should have more 'fire' in order to 'deliver'.
So, people out there toying with thoughts of starting a 'fire' to their respective place of work . . . be sure no 'backfire' happens afterwards . . . or you'll be short-circuited for arson! Last but not least cross your fingers and keep them crossed . . . for better or for worse . . . he, he.
