Down To Earth

Assalamualaikum and Greetings

It Does Make A Difference . . .

To all Malaysians . . .

In conjunction with HARI MALAYSIA celebrations today 16 September 2014 . . . I just feel like sharing this short but down-to-earth episode with you.

Just For Thoughts
{Page extracted  from  today's Harian Metro}

Have you ever for one moment . . . thought about not having contributed anything of merit to Malaysia?

Read on and think . . .

What have you contributed to your community and/or the society at large . . . the nation for that matter?

Nothing much? Nothing of great importance? Nothing worthy of mention?

Nothing at all!

"Don't panic ... no worry . . . you're doing OK. You're a normal citizen in a normal society of a normal country!"

I was taken aback when an old friend of mine uttered those words to me quite recently. I thought he was just trying to pull my leg.

He always like to pull a fast one on people especially those close to him. In this instance I just could not restraint myself from asking him:

"What do you mean by that? You're telling me not to 'panic ... and not to worry . . . when I've not contributed anything at all to this my tanah tumpah darahku . . . "

He smiled and said:

"Yeah, in truth you have contributed something you may not be aware of".

My next question:

"How come?"

His matter-of-fact answer:

"By not giving any headache and / or creating any problem to people around you. Well . . . at the least you're not troubling society. That's what you have contributed!"

I knew he was sincere when he said those words. He was that simple in thought and action . . . as simple as he was throughout those student days when he became many times a glamorous straight A's scorer.

Though seemingly simple in his outlook . . . this friend of mine is no simpleton.

Unlike many big names we are familiar with locally . . . he has never been known to be a 'yes man' . . . except in situations worthy of thought and / or mention!

Surely you too have such friends...

Got d message?

Precise and wise. When you have not done anything harmful and have never gotten yourself involved in any disgraceful act towards your society and / or against d nation at large . . . you're a good enough Malaysian.

The rest of d magic is up to you to conjure in order to be or not to be a better Malaysian!

Have a nice day.
