Blame It On The Bossa Nova?

The first thing that caught my attention when starting to blog my way through this afternoon was that piece of tragic news in the little column of a local Malay daily (UM) on Tuesday 10 November 2009. It was regarding the death of two young children namely Mohamad Firdaus Roslan 11 years and Mohamad Azrul Shafik Ariffin 10 years of age.

According to the newspaper report they were killed while riding a motorcycle along the 8 Km Lumut - Teluk Batik road. They were said to have lost control of the bike and hit a tree while riding together. The motorcycle belongs to a visitor who parked his bike at a nearby shop while going fishing at the boys village. The visitor denied giving permission to the kids to 'toy' around with his machine.

Well, the question is,"How uncontrollable were the young boys then? Were there no one to check on them when they took away the bike from the owner? How did the boys managed to get hold of the bike and rode it ? Were the keys there (on the bike) or were there duplicated keys? Was this the first time these young boys took a ride without a driving licence ? (they surely don't possessed one yet!)"

My condolence to the respective parents and families in their hour of bereavement ... but what a loss it was due to plain carelessness and I believe an attitude of 'tidak apa!'

One last (but not least) thing to ponder ...What if the boys mission of taking a ' joy' ride that day in the vicinity of their kampung did not end tragically? Perhaps there will be many more such 'joy' rides and 'unlawful' taking over and possession of other people vehicles and 'unlawful' usage of same by the boys ... or even others, with no one to check on such uncalled for habits.
